Another celebrity slithers into fall's hottest trend

I know you are all probably sick and tired of my constant posts about snakeskin, but it seems as if this fall trend is spreading like wild fire. Need two more examples? (Probably not, but I'm going to give them anyway!) As I walked through the mall, I noticed my favourite Michael Kor's Hamilton tote (I bought one in white) with a snakeskin print. Swoon. The bag retails for around $450 dollars and is available at the Rideau Mall. Unfortunately since I already splurged for the white Hamilton tote, I can't imagine purchasing the identical bag in snakeskin.

Not loving the snakeskin print? Well it seems as if this fad will certainly stick around for a couple of months as another celebrity has embraced snakeskin! Lady Gaga was seen this weekend leaving the Chateau Marmont on in a yellow Versace (FW2011) print cocktail dress. She paired this fabulous dress with velvet Louboutins.

What do you think; are you loving or hating the snakeskin print?

Is Jolie's Ad Insensitive?

I came across the new Louis Vuitton ad featuring Angelina Jolie on Cocoperez.com. I Googled for the picture to add on the blog and I came across an article in the Guardian with an interesting title: What's Angelina Jolie doing in a swamp with a 7,000 pound bag?

At first glance, I would agree that the photo looks a little odd. The ad was shot in Cambodia. Normally Louis Vuitton sends photographers to beautiful places to shoot models (or celebrities) frolicking on an island or relaxing by the pool. But this time around it's Angelina Jolie looking quite fresh-faced in a wooden boat in a Cambodian swamp.

The article states, "the response has not been one of unguarded rejoicing. Some have argued that if you travel upriver in a very poor country with mosquitos and ferocious river beasts threatening your life and sanity, you might not want to take a £7,000 bag with you. Perhaps using poor countries as the backdrop to show off your luxury goods isn't in the best possible taste?"

My opinion? I understand the critics. It is a little questionable that the luxury brand choose to shoot their ads in a developing country. But I think that it look fabulous. I think that the luxury brand has finally done something refreshing. Jolie is not centered in the picture which allows us to examine the beautiful scenery behind the actress. I feel like it is a very artistic photo that isn't cliche. And might I add "ferocious river beasts" ... really...really? Who is this writer? Obviously he's never been to a "poor country" before.

Nonetheless, The article does mention that Jolie gave a reported 10 million dollars to charity from the Louis Vuitton pay cheque.

What do you think of the ad?

Want to Make More Money?

Good news for all those label whores out there!

Contrary to your bank account, a new study has found wearing designer labels can help you get a job, but also make you more money so long as the designer is obvious.

For their first experiment, Rob Nelissen and Marijn Meijers people a picture of a man wearing a Tommy Hilfiger polo with a visible logo. The subject's believe that the man who was wearing the Tommy polo had a higher status and had more money. In another experiment, volunteers watched two different videos of job interviews. They voted that the man that was wearing the designer shirt (with the visible logo) was more suitable for the job and also should earn a 9% high salary than the one without a logo! That's huge!

BUT WHY!!!?!?!?!?!

Nelissen and Meijers drew similarities to the "peacock with the best tail gets all the girls". They add "people react to designer labels as signals of underlying quality. Only the best can afford them."

So I guess my label purchases weren't as frivolous as everyone told me they were!

Just Saying!

Ok. Do not judge me, but I read Perez Hilton religiously (and Cocoperez). I like that the posts are so short and sweet, it gets right to the point. After a long day of reading articles about development issues, it is always nice to relax with some celebrity gossip (and fashion). Although I love the site, I personally have never liked Perez Hilton. I have also heard that he is quite the diva when you met him (no surprise there!) NONETHELESS... I am glad that he stopped bullying celebrities on his blog (remember Potato Head?) For an (formerly) overweight man, he was very judgmental. And that is what I dislike about Perez: he is a complete hypocrite. If you read his blog, you probably notice that he has consistently scorned celebrities that smoke. He recently commented on the presence of a cigarette in the hand of Kate Moss as she walked the Louis Vuitton fashion show in Paris. He states: Do not have a drag, just be a queen.

HYPOCRITE!

Perez Hilton was featured in Rihanna's S&M music video. He was on all fours (pretending to be a dog) while Rihanna held his leash and .....wait for it...... SMOKED A CIGARETTE. If he really was against cigarettes, then why would he have agreed to participate in a music video that glorifies smoking a cigarette. In the end, this just shows that money (and fame) are more important than his values. Tsk tsk.

Sorry, just need to get that off my chest.
