Most of us have been repeatedly told that if Barbie was a real person, she would not be able to stand on her own two feet (because she's so disproportionate!) One student decided to take what everyone had told her and make a life size model of Barbie and the results are SCARY! If Barbie's measurements were converted to human size the doll would be 5ft 9 inches tall with a bust of 39 inches, an 18 inch waist and 33 inch hips. Wowza. A regular women with the same dimensions would weigh 110 pounds! A figure associated with eating disorders. Galia told Huffington Post that the lifelike Barbe would "likely not menstruate... she'd have to walk on all fours due to her proportions."
That's one scary looking Barbie! Galia Slayen, a student at Hamilton University and a former anorexia sufferer, built the doll as part of her recovery and to raise awareness about the dangers of an eating disorder. Although I love Barbie (and have had so many during my lifetime!) I think that his obsession with skinniness needs to stop! Lets see bigger models on runways and in photo spreads! Marilyn Monroe was considered to be a size 6 (8) and she was considered to be a bombshell! Let's make a difference.
