Clipping: The Surrealist Ball, London, 17 Mar 2011

"A stuffed bird, a gloved hand and a Care Bear head - just a night of wacky fun for the guests of the NSPCC Surrealist Ball

It's probably not very - if at all - often that a taxidermist's wares and a child's teddy bear become the centre of attention at a red carpet event.

But last night, a dead, stuffed bird and the head of a Care Bear were just a couple of wacky fashion items to grace the presence of the flashbulbs.

Throw a gloved hand as a fascinator into the mix and it can only have been the weird but fun event that was last night's Surrealist Ball.

Celebrities from the world of fashion, film and music got together last night for the event, which was held at Boujis nightclub in London to raise money for the NSPCC.

Among the guests was handbag designer Lulu Guinness, 50, who decided that she would adorn a green and blue stuffed parrot on top of her head.

She completed the look with a toy bird in a gilded cage as a handbag and a long Chinese-style dress.

Model Natalia Vodianova, 29, was another guest and wore a very simple but chic long black gown with a plunging neckline.

But it was her fascinator that drew the most attention, with a black and white polka dot glove on the right side of her head.

But if anyone was guaranteed to set the flashbulbs off and raise a laugh, it was actress Margot Stilley, who wore a stunning bright fuchsia gown complete with a huge pink Care Bear head.

The event included a champagne cocktail reception where guests were entertained by all different performers, before they were led through to dinner.

Paloma Faith, who wore a see-through red lacy dress, and VV Brown, who arrived in a piano-inspired sequinned top, performed at the bash.

Other guests included artist Tracy Emin, who looked like she'd made a dress out of gold stripy wrapping paper with a bit of rug as a shrug and Spanish actress Rossy de Palma, who wore a red shoe as a fascinator.

Critically-acclaimed photographer David Bailey and his wife Catherine also attended as did vintage shop owner Virginia Bates, who arrived on the arms of two males friends, one of whom wore a Chanel bag as a gimp mask, the other in a gold chimp face mask."
