Fashion For Funds

This Sunday Feburary 20th, The Glebe Community Center will host FASHION FOR FUNDS. The fashion event will showcase recent collections by top Canadian designers and will raise funds for Canuck Place and Rogers House. I got to quickly chat with the organizer, Kate Reeve (who is only 12 years old!), about her life and what inspired her to host such an amazing event.

First can you tell me a little bit about yourself and what inspired you to create this event?

I'm a grade seven student at Immaculata High School, and enjoy reading and writing. I was inspired to organize this event by a book I read once about a group of friends who put on charity fashion show. I thought - Hey! I could so do that too!

Why did you choose to do a fashion show?

I chose to do a fashion show because it was something new and exciting, and I thought people would really want to come.

Tell us a little about what people can expect at this fashion show.

At the show, people can expect great fashion, great friends and a great atmosphere, as well as a very worthy cause

You are so young, how did you go about doing all this? Was it hard to get people interested in the event?

Well, to get our designers involved, I went onto the Ottawa Fashion Week website and found the designer who showed there. Then I emailed/called those designers, and the five that got back to me are showcasing their designs. Well, to be honest, I didn't tell everyone I contacted straight off how old I am. I figure it isn't very important, and if people assume that I'm older, I guess that's a compliment

What do you see yourself doing in the future?

In the future, I see myself either as; a journalist, working in PR for Cheo maybe, or as a human rights lawyer.
