This was my fourth visit to Japan and I decided to be more 'spur of the moment' and look for smaller out of the way temples, shrines, etc. In Kamakura after viewing
Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu (I use the word viewed as I didn't go all the way into this mega big shrine......I'm pretty sure every school aged child in Japan was there that day enjoying her/himself) I cut across a tour bus parking lot and adjacent to the back of the lot I discovered this neighborhood
Shinto Shrine.
The shrine is painted a great shade of red and very different from the stone neighborhood shrines I've seen in Tokyo.

The roof is interesting because it's wooden not metal as I've seen on other roofs constructed in this style. Notice in this photo and the first one that the shrine sits between two apartment buildings.
Stone Kitsune (fox). There are also small porcelain foxes inside the shrine in the second photo.
