PHOTO FRIDAY - YOUNG & OLD
The day we visited Nara, Japan many school age children were there also. I remembered my own school trips to historical sites in American and realized the Buddhist temples at Nara were centuries older than anything we visited on our school outings.
School children walking past Goju-no-to (Five Story Pagoda) at the Kofuku-ji (Temple) in Nara. The Pagoda was being repaired the day we were there so we didn't get to go inside. Originally built in 725 the temple was last rebuilt in 1425 - a good three hundred years before we became a country. Perhaps my personal title for this week's Photo Friday should be: Young & Very Very Old.
This group of children came with clipboards and worksheets with questions to answer about the Todai-ji (Temple). The figure with the red hat and cape is the Arhat Binzuru. This wooden figure dates from the 18th century.
