You can’t go wrong with a blazer.
Since I started to work for the government (I finally got a big girl job), I have been accumulating different color blazers for work. Nonetheless, I find it exceptionally hard to find blazers that fit perfectly. I have very broad shoulders, so I tend to back-away from any tops that have shoulder padding. The problem is that many companies aren’t known for their blazers, which means that the design of this staple wardrobe piece is almost always awkwardly designed. Either the fit is just too tight or the shoulders look ridiculous. I just can’t catch a break. But there is hope! This week I was scanning HUSH Couture’s website. Their obsession of the week featured a company called Smythe that specializes in the creation of blazers and coats. As I scrolled through the article, the pictures that were featured instantly intrigued me.
Smythe launched in 2004 and in 7 short years these fabulous jackets have garnered quite an international following. Some of the many celebrities that have been snapped wearing the label include Blake Lively, Kourtney & Kim Kardashian, Hayden Panettiere, Rachel McAdams, Kate Hudson, and Eva Longoria. The reason behind the company's instant success is that they provide essential wardrobe pieces that are contemporary, flawlessly-tailored and feature nostalgic colors, textures and prints. BONUS: Smythe’s jackets and coats are ALL made-in-Canada. Sweet. Not looking for a jacket? No worries, the label expanded their line recently to include flowy tops that are perfectly suited for any hot summer day.
But, there is a catch. With such big names wearing the label, it comes as no surprise that the items are a little pricey. I guess we have to splurge to get something that will last (don’t you agree?). The items are available at Holt Renfrew across Canada, including the Holt located right here in Ottawa. In the end, these jackets aren’t cheap. But like every wardrobe staple these fabulous pieces never go out of style and make any outfit look effortless and stylish. In addition, it is a nice to have a company that focuses all their energy into creating their clothing within Canada for Canadians.
