Holga Impressions of Spring

When spring comes to this part of the country it does so so rapidly you can almost watch the buds become leaves, the rain green up the grass and the flowers appear. I captured previous springs with my digital camera. This year I decided to create an impression of spring rather than a realistic view. So it's spring in double exposures with blues enhanced by using ektachrome which I had cross processed when developed. The Holga is such a fun camera to use.

A double exposure of a field and traces of yes, snow.

Trees with the cemetery in the background.

At first I though there was dirt on my camera lense but it's D'AVIS not DAVIS and a beagle nose.

Topsy turvy cemetery view with a bunch of daffodils randomly planted in the woods.

Fractured view of the Stonebridge formerly an inn but now used by the town.

Almost Spring - A Holga Photo Essay

Spring is late to arrive in this area of New England. Starting at the beginning of April I look for signs that soon, well realtively soon, the leaves and flowers will appear. First the snow melts, then there's mud, brown colors and other indicators that, yes, spring will be here in early May. In the meantime I take lots of pictures with my Holga.

A favorite trail is free of snow...... finally.

Signs glisten in the sunlight.

Spring must be close as the "Panorama Coach" is back on the road.

A rainstorm washes winter's sand and gravel off the street. The town looks so clean.

Spring wreaths appear on a church door.

Hooray, no snow on the road, fields or mountains.

The snow has melted along the stone wall too. Yeah, almost Spring.

Holga NYC's Chinatown on a Saturday Morning

Was this street vendor drinking milk tea like I was? So warming on a cold morning.

Last Saturday morning about eleven o'clock was very busy around the Grand Street Subway station. Lots of people, mostly older women, came pouring up the steps to shop for the fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and fish displayed along the streets of Chinatown. The day was sunny but cold for spring. I used tungsten Ektachrome, took lots of double and triple exposures and had the photos cross processed. The sun was very bright but not high in the sky this time of year so only parts of the streets were sunny.

Everyone was still bundled up for winter as they hurried along the street.

I saw this You Suck Sarah Marshall sign several places in New York. I guess it's promoting the new movie "Forgetting Sarah Marshall"

.

This double exposure shows the street on the fruit basket. The basket of fresh fruits looked so good.

As did the Chinese snacks sold by street vendors.

Straightening perms are popular everywhere these days.

Parisi Bakery truck on Hester Street. It's fun to walk along the street as the stores change from Chinese to Italian. One can eat a Cantonese lunch and then three stores down the block have an Italian ice for dessert.

These root vegetables would be tasty in a stew on this cold day.

Roast pork is so yummy!
