Clipping: Carpets

Secret Hobbies
NATALIA VODIANOVA – “I am an excellent embroiderer - and I’m great at laying carpets. Honestly.”

"Secret Hobbies
LAURENMILLIGAN 07 July 2011

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN is a trapeze artist. He has two trapezes in his studio - put there after the trapeze club he went to closed down - which he practices on between meetings. So, inspired by what is quite possibly the most stylish vision our minds can conjure, we asked fashion's key players to reveal their secret, even strange, hobbies.

Which Vogue cover girl loves chopping wood? Which international supermodel is an expert carpet-layer? Which photographer loves capturing pictures of rubbish? Which designer is a fire dancer, and which a budding pianist?"

Clipping: Untouched

NATALIA VODIANOVA, Raquel Zimmermann and Edie Campbell are among top models to star in a new collection of black and white untouched images, celebrating the official launch of Viva Model agency in London. Each of the company's girls has been photographed by Scott Trindle - without any make-up, hair or styling.

‘It doesn't scare me that the images aren't retouched, it adds another layer of interest and intrigue,’ Trindle told us. ‘I'm as guilty of a slight polish in post as any, but having beautiful woman sit by a window doesn't fill me with unease. The fear that surrounds an un-retouched image is quite amazing - and again I'm no martyr. So much can be adapted in post, and so I suppose the main benefit is its purity.’

Over the past year, each model has been asked to have their portrait taken by Trindle when visiting London - a slightly less glamorous setting than some may have been used to: in his Dalston flat.

‘I suppose there is a level of irony having supermodels like Natalia and Raquel traipse through a £5 carwash and a cloud of Angel's barbecued jerk fumes, and I can't deny buying some flowers on the odd occasion to lighten the setting,’ the photographer said. ‘Even after three flights of stairs everyone was really receptive, and I think on the odd occasion welcomed the break from a hectic schedule of go-sees.’

Viva's director Natalie Hand is thrilled with the results.

‘His images stood out because it was just so interesting and rare for us to see the girls like that; he shot them with no additional hair, make-up or styling,’ she explained. ‘They were shot exactly as they were in person, exactly how they were when they walked through his door. And they looked really beautiful. The blemishes added to their charm. And you could definitely learn something about the model's real character from the pictures.’

Clipping: Best Dressed

"Best Dressed Of The Week - 8/4/2011
See the most fashionable people in a week of style
JULIANEEL

THE Seventies trend was a popular one this week - with both Gwyneth Paltrow (in Hampstead to raise awareness for the Marie Curie Hospice), and Kate Bosworth (wearing Topshop at the Vail Film Festival), impressing us with their easy take on the trend.

In London, Samantha Cameron and Holly Fulton were at Smythson, where artist Janice Blackburn has curated an artistic tribute to the royal wedding. And Mawi gave the fashion pack a taste of British summertime last night, with a fairground-themed party to launch the label's first ever standalone store - based in Shoreditch. Jasmine Guinness, Jade Parfitt and Daisy Lowe - feasted on popcorn, cookies and meringues under a marquee decked in bunting. 'I'm so pleased with the turn out,' designer Mawi Keivom told us. 'I particularly love the grab machines - everything else was an off-shoot from those.'

At the Pace Gallery in Beijing, Jessica Alba and one of this month's Vogue cover girls - Natalia Vodianova - celebrated the opening of an exhibition that showcases four decades of fashion and portraits of Diane von Furstenberg.

And the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards saw some great red carpet looks from Selena Gomez, Heidi Klum and Miley Cyrus".

"Vogue gets Royal Wedding boost in May issue ad pages

04 April 2011, 11:00am

The 382-page issue, which hits newsstands on Thursday (7 April), has 152 ad pages – an increase of 40 ad pages compared to last year's issue.

Vogue is offering readers a choice of three covers featuring models Freja Beha Erichsen, Lara Stone, and Natalia Vodianova dressed as brides. The images are shot by Mario Testino.

The issue carries the coverline 'Catherine Middleton, the making of a modern princess' and looks back at the magazine's 95-year history of covering royal weddings.

Alexandra Shulman, editor of British Vogue, said: 'We spent a great deal of time discussing what our tribute to the marriage of Catherine Middleton and Prince William should be, and we came up with a delicious confection of all things matrimonial, a portfolio of white fashion and a completely indulgent trio of bridal covers with Natalia Vodianova, Lara Stone and Freja as the figureheads for this commemorative issue'.

According to latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations, Vogue had an average net circulation of 211,277 for the six months to December 2010, which was up 0.4% year on year".
