HOLGA - Salton Sea - Bombay Beach

The Salton Sea is a saline lake located in Southern California 166 miles (267.5 km) east and slightly north of San Diego where we recently visited. I went to the Salton Sea several years ago so was excited to visit again with my Holga cameras. I had read much about Bombay Beach on its eastern shore and wanted to visit as the rising and falling water levels have created what I thought of as a fun photo opportunity. It seems like Bombay Beach flooded and then the very small town was moved back from the water. A sand dike was built to prevent subsequent flooding. However some structures on the sea side of the dike were left and have deteriorated over the years creating photo opportunities.

I shot Velvia fujichrome which I had cross processed when developed. To get an idea of how sunny and bright it is in this desert area when I use Velvia in Vermont the colors are very bright red, orange purple and pink. And I took many many many photos, both Holga and digital, of this area.
