Clipping: Met Costume Institute Gala, New York, 02 May 2011

"Met Gala 2011
An exclusive report by FrancaSozzani on the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala

A wonderful exhibition that retraces Alexander McQueen’s career without stating the obvious. Just like he would have done. Despite the use of dummies and great open black wardrobes, nothing seemed funereal or made memories look too distant. Each outfit looked so modern and always a step ahead in the concepts, prints and shapes, even in the dummies employed. It was more like projecting into the future rather than into the past. His strong and unexpected silhouettes would make an amazing impact on catwalks even today. Alexander was there, with all his creativity and craziness.

Anna Wintour welcomed the guests alongside Colin Firth, Stella McCartney and Francois Pinault with Salma Hayek. Also attending the much-applauded exhibition and the performance by Florence Welch, were Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr, Madonna, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Tom Hooper back, with Colin Firth, from the great success at the Oscars for The King's Speech, Diane Kruger, Kate Winslet, Jennifer Lopez, Alejandro González Iñárritu, sisters Elle and Dakota Fanning, Rihanna, Janelle Monáe, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cristina Ricci, Mick Jagger, Liv Tyler, Demi Moore, Marina Abramovich, Francesco Vezzoli, Larry Gagosian, Murdoch, Barry Diller, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Paul McCartney, Bradley Cooper, Jeff Koons, Iman, Naomi Campbell, Liu Wen, Natalia Vodianova, Taylor Swift, John Legend, Chrissie Teigen, Doutzen Kroes, Mariacarla Boscono, Karolína Kurková, Lucy Liu, Renée Zellweger, Leelee Sobieski, Kate Hudson, Blake Lively, Dianna Agron, Maggie Grace and all fashion designers, from Karl Lagerfeld to Tom Ford, and then Valentino and Giancarlo Giammetti, Miuccia Prada, Marc Jacobs, Stefano Pilati, Diane von Fürstenberg, Rodarte sisters, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, Consuelo Castiglioni, Laudomia Pucci, Philip Treacy, Stephen Jones, Giambattista Valli, Christian Louboutin, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa, Zac Posen, Olivier Theyskens, Stella McCartney, Margherita Missoni.

Dinner was served at the Metropolitan within a setting that resembled a big garden featuring raw wooden tables and garden chairs. The party carried on at various hangouts and ended at the Boom Boom Room.
