Whimsical

A group on Flickr has a challenge titled "Tunnel Vision" where a toilet paper roll is put around the lense of one's camera to create a vignette effect. I thought it sounded fun and rememberd I'd put an empty paper towel roll in the trash earlier today. I jumped up from my computer, grabbed my digital camera and cut the paper towel roll to what I guessed was a toilet paper sized roll and took a few pictures. The Flickr challenge is a little more serious than I felt like being so I'm putting the photos on my blog.

I was in a hurry and wanted instant gratification so I used curved cuticle sissors to cut the paper towel roll. It's a tad uneven but more interesting than a perfect circle I think. I have several lucky bamboo arrangements to which I've added plastic trinkets like a girl in a bathing suit, an O- Totoro, a Chu Totoro and a catbus.

Oh, there's Chu and Chibi Totoros and McDull. O-Totoro's eye is in the upper right corner.

There's better view of O-Totoro. Also Fai , Chibi Totoro, and McDull.

This photo was taken without a flash and has a more nostalgic old fashioned look.

As does this photo of the jungle of 'lucky bamboo leaves. A fun exercise.

Holga-End of Summer Clouds

As I've mentioned our summer here in Vermont has been one of clouds, rain and sun then clouds, rain and sun sometimes within a short period of time. I decided to take some more cloud pictures this time using slide film which I had cross processed. The effect gives a slightly unreal look to the photos.

Thunderclouds against a gray blue sky.

Trees and clouds. I like the different turquoise and green colors in the sky and double exposure of the trees.

In this photo I like the small burst of bright turquoise in the middle of the photo over the dark trees.

The clouds have an interesting texture when photographed from a car going 60mph/100km/h.

Double exposure taken on the only straight part of the road on my ride home from work.

Ohara Japan- Gardens at Sanzenin Temple

The Sanzenin Temple in Ohara supposedly was founded by Saicho the founder of Tendai Buddhism. The views from the temple grounds are picturesque and the grounds lovely.

A view of nearby mountains from the temple grounds.

Another view of the mountains and a building on the property.

A view into the gardens. So lovely and peaceful.

The figures on the ground may be Jizo or Hotai.

These buddha figures represent donations made by many many people.

A peaceful walk down along a small waterfall.

Wow, red leaves on a small maple tree in mid May. Where I live in Vermont early leaf changes are, unfortunately caused by acid rain....

Holga- Summer Clouds

This summer we've had unusual weather. Clouds roll in and it rains. Then sun shines. Soon more clouds roll in and the weather pattern repeats itself. There's not enough time between the weather changes to go out and enjoy the sunny weather or settle in for a rainy day of reading a book or watching a movie. One late afternoon I ventured out with my Holga and took some of these pictures before it stormed.

So dramatic looking in black and white. Pine tree and maple against the dark storm clouds.

Storm clouds loom above the Vermont landscape.

The storm clouds look so threatening above the maple trees.

A closer view of the storm clouds and maple tree in this double exposure. Thank goodness it's only a picture.

The house and garage look so small below the trees and storm clouds.

Finally a sunny and we can sit outside at our favorite cafe!!
